Steel commercial playground equipment offer several advantages, including high durability and inherent weather resistance. Unlike wood, which may require additional treatments to withstand environmental factors, steel is naturally equipped to handle various weather conditions, potentially leading to cost savings in maintenance and longevity.
Ensuring equipment complies with safety standards is crucial. In the U.S., the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) set forth guidelines for playground safety. Additionally, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) certifies products that meet these standards.
At Zoom Recreation, our steel equipment undergoes a Triple Flo-Coat process to promote resistance. This technique involves three layers of protection: zinc, conversion coating, and a clear organic topcoat. The conversion coating chemically changes the first layer of zinc to make the steel less susceptible to corrosion and white rust. The last layer, a clear organic topcoat, is applied to make the steel shiny and smooth and adds another layer of durability. With this final coat, the st eel will not oxide with age and will last for years to come.
Both the interior and exterior of all of our galvanized steel parts have been through the Triple Flo-Coat® process to ensure greater corrosion resistance. All galvanized steel posts and tubing are 95%–98% recyclable. Our posts are available in two sizes, 3.5" Commercial Adventure Playground Series and the 5" Commercial Expedition Playground Series.
